I'm beginning to realize that the "15 items or fewer" lane at my neighborhood Ralph's is really the "lonely singles shopping for one" lane.
Example. While buying coffee filters and a quart of milk, I paid attention to what others were buying in said lane. The two guys ahead of me had nearly identical purchases: a loaf of bread, peanut butter, milk, and a 4-pack of Ralph's brand toilet paper. Sad. The girl behind me was buying a chocolate bar, two tabloids, and a few lean cuisines.
Pay attention next time. You'll certainly notice this phenomenon.
